Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu personally watched the arrest of a soldier and four other people for breaking one-way traffic laws along the Lagos-Badagry Motorway, in a determined effort to enforce traffic regulations and guarantee the safety of road users. The event happened this morning, January 2, 2024, when the governor’s convoy came into contact with the careless riders.

According to eyewitnesses, the five motorcycle riders were apprehended after abandoning their motorcycles and passengers upon sighting the convoy of Governor Sanwo-Olu. The governor, known for his commitment to maintaining order on the roads, took immediate action to address the violation and enforce the consequences of disregarding traffic laws.

Among the arrested individuals was a lance corporal in the Nigerian Army, adding a layer of complexity to the situation. The soldier was apprehended alongside his motorcycle, indicating that the law applies to all citizens, regardless of their occupation or status.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who has consistently emphasized the importance of traffic discipline in Lagos, has once again demonstrated his commitment to ensuring that rules and regulations are adhered to by all residents. The arrest serves as a strong deterrent to others who might consider flouting traffic laws, sending a clear message that enforcement will be swift and impartial.

The Lagos-Badagry Expressway, a vital artery for commuters, has witnessed increased efforts by the state government to curb traffic infractions and enhance overall road safety. Governor Sanwo-Olu’s hands-on approach to dealing with violations aligns with the administration’s broader strategy to create a more orderly and secure transportation system in the bustling city of Lagos.

While the identities of the four non-military offenders were not immediately disclosed, the arrest of a lance corporal raises questions about the responsibility of uniformed personnel to adhere to traffic regulations and the consequences when they fail to do so.
