Devil controls music that’s the sobering declaration made by Nigerian Afrobeats veteran, 9ice, during a revealing interview on The Nancy Isime Show.

The Gongo Aso hitmaker, whose real name is Akande Abolore, didn’t shy away from the spiritual weight of the industry. “The devil is the choir master,” he claimed. “That’s why we smoke, we do all these things.”
9ice warned aspiring musicians to recognize the hidden forces they may be confronting.
“Music generally, devil controls the music,” he said. “If you are coming to this industry, understand where you’re coming to. I’m not lying to you.”
The artist also shared his personal spiritual journey one marked by a mysterious illness that caused him to vomit blood for six months, unexplained by medical professionals.
Now a devout practitioner of African traditional religion, 9ice identifies as a Babalawo.
He urged African youth to rediscover their cultural roots, citing Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti as an early influence.

“Go back to your parents,” he advised. “Ask questions. Embrace your roots with sincerity.”
