The state’s leader allegedly turned down an offer from the Alaafin of Oyo to provide support in tackling insecurity and terrorist threats across the region.

The move has sparked heated debate, with critics describing it as a missed opportunity to strengthen grassroots defence.

The Alaafin, a revered traditional ruler with a strong cultural and political presence, was said to have extended his hand in partnership to help mobilise local networks against terrorist elements.

His offer, insiders claim, included rallying traditional institutions to complement the government’s security strategies.

Observers argue that the governor’s refusal underestimates the powerful role of community leadership in counter-terrorism.

Traditional rulers have historically been pivotal in intelligence gathering and local coordination, especially in times of crisis.

Supporters of the governor insist that the decision was taken in good faith, stressing that security operations should remain coordinated through official state and federal agencies.

However, opponents see the rejection as politically motivated and potentially damaging to public confidence in the fight against terror.

As terrorist activities continue to threaten lives and livelihoods in parts of Nigeria, the controversy underscores the urgent need for synergy between government and traditional authorities.

Many citizens believe that effective cooperation, rather than rivalry, is the only path to lasting security.
