Pregnant woman, children among 11 abducted as terror hits Kwara again

A pregnant woman and children are among 11 people abducted in a fresh Kwara attack, deepening fear across Isapa and neighbouring communities

At least eleven residents, including a pregnant woman and several children, were abducted on Monday evening when between twenty and thirty armed bandits launched a devastating assault on Isapa in the Ekiti Local Government Area.

The gunmen reportedly entered the quiet farming community around 6pm, firing repeatedly as they moved through the settlement with a large herd of cattle.

Eyewitnesses told The PUNCH that homes were riddled with bullet holes on walls, windows and doors, confirming the terrifying scale of the Kwara attack.

A community leader, who requested anonymity due to safety concerns, confirmed that seven of the abducted victims belonged to one family.

The kidnapped residents include a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers and children aged between five and ten.

He identified victims as Talatu Kabiru, six-year-old Magaji, Kande aged five, ten-year-old Hadiza, six-year-old Mariam, Saima aged five, Habibat, Fatima Yusufu, 22-year-old pregnant Sarah Sunday, Lami Fidelis and Haja Na Allah, a nursing mother.

The community leader described the incident as the most devastating attack in recent memory, adding that fear now overwhelms the entire district.

“Seven members of the same family were taken. People are terrified. Eleven people just disappeared into the bush. We do not know what tomorrow holds,” he said.

A senior security official confirmed on Tuesday that operatives had begun combing the vast forests stretching across Isapa, Eruku and nearby villages in search of the abductees.

The officer noted that although federal reinforcements were still present in the region, the difficult terrain and multiple settlements complicate surveillance.

He said operatives were working to verify the exact number abducted and identify the assailants responsible.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said details were still being gathered and an official update would follow.

The latest abduction has intensified fear across Isapa, Eruku and adjoining communities.

Local vigilantes have expanded night patrols and several religious centres have scaled back evening programmes.

The Isapa incident marks the third major assault in Ekiti LGA within a month. Three weeks ago, eighteen residents were kidnapped in Eruku before being rescued.

Only last week, thirty-eight worshippers were abducted from a church during a thanksgiving service, though they were later released.

Residents say the repeated attacks are creating a sense of siege, with many now worried that bandits may be attempting to assert dominance over the area.
