Ogun Police Mirabel investigation continues after TikTok user is discharged from hospital, with command denying arrest rumours

The Ogun State Police Command on Friday confirmed that Mirabel, a TikTok user whose sexual assault allegation sparked widespread public reaction, has been discharged from hospital but remains with officers as the Ogun Police Mirabel investigation continues in Ogijo, Ogun State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development during an interview with News Central Television, outlining the sequence of events after Mirabel presented herself at the Ibafo Police Division.

Babaseyi said officers initially found Mirabel unable to provide a coherent account when she was debriefed, prompting immediate medical intervention. The Divisional Police Officer subsequently took her to a state hospital for urgent attention.

According to Babaseyi, Mirabel was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit as a precautionary measure following concerns about her condition.

Babaseyi stressed that the command acted in good faith based on the gravity of the allegations contained in Mirabel’s viral TikTok posts and accompanying reactions on X.

The spokesperson maintained that Mirabel was presumed to be a victim at that stage and that her welfare was prioritised.

Babaseyi further clarified that Mirabel was not arrested at any point, dismissing online speculation to the contrary.

The spokesperson added that Mirabel retained her freedom to communicate with anyone of her choosing while receiving care.

Providing an update, Babaseyi confirmed that Mirabel had since been discharged from hospital and was assisting officers as they work towards establishing the facts. Babaseyi said the investigation would determine whether the allegations were substantiated.

The controversy began after Mirabel, known on TikTok as @mirab351, posted a video alleging that an unidentified individual broke into her apartment, assaulted her and sent threatening messages.

The claims triggered an intense and emotional reaction online, with many users calling for swift justice.

Initial responses linked the alleged incident to Lagos State, prompting reactions from agencies in that jurisdiction.

Preliminary findings later indicated that the incident occurred in Ogijo, shifting responsibility to the Ogun State Police Command.

Amid the online uproar, rumours circulated suggesting that Mirabel had been arrested for allegedly fabricating the claim.

The command firmly denied those reports in an earlier statement, reiterating that Mirabel voluntarily lodged a complaint and was taken for medical evaluation due to her condition.

The Ogun Police Mirabel investigation remains ongoing, with the command urging members of the public to rely on verified information and refrain from spreading unconfirmed claims as inquiries proceed.
