Dumebi Kachikwu presidential candidate confirmed as ADC faction names him flagbearer for 2027 general election in Abuja convention
Former African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu has been declared the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, following a factional convention held in Abuja, Nigeria, on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

The announcement of the Dumebi Kachikwu presidential candidate status was made by a faction of the ADC loyal to the party’s former 2023 flagbearer, who was endorsed as the sole candidate after what organisers described as a consensus-driven convention.
The development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, where rival blocs continue to dispute control of the party structure and its national leadership.
The faction backing Kachikwu said the decision was part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kachikwu, a prominent businessman and media entrepreneur, previously contested the 2023 presidential election on the ADC platform and has remained an influential figure within the party’s internal politics.
His emergence in this latest decision is seen as a bold and strategic consolidation move within his faction.
Party insiders described the convention outcome as decisive, though rival camps are expected to challenge its legitimacy, deepening the already tense political standoff within the opposition party.
The announcement has added fresh momentum to the ADC’s internal power struggle, with analysts warning that the factional dispute could shape the party’s electoral strength heading into the next general election cycle.

Supporters of the move, however, insist it represents a turning point, framing Kachikwu’s selection as a unifying step within their bloc and a renewed push for electoral competitiveness.
