A fatal road crash at Ogere Junction along the Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway has claimed two lives, while two other people escaped without injuries after a collision involving a truck and a passenger bus in the early hours of Thursday.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists.
Odunsi said four adult males were involved in the crash, with two losing their lives and the remaining two escaping unhurt.
He said preliminary investigations identified route violation and speed violation as possible causes of the collision, adding that the impact caused the Peugeot J5 bus to catch fire, leaving its front section completely burnt.
“FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of being notified and immediately commenced traffic management,” Odunsi said.
He added that the affected lane was diverted to the alternative carriageway while officials worked to remove the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.
The remains of the deceased victims were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a mortuary.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to observe traffic rules.
Ogunjobi warned drivers against speeding and route violations, particularly during periods of poor visibility and wet road conditions, noting that reckless driving remains a major contributor to fatal crashes.
The sector command also reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety through enforcement operations, public awareness campaigns and emergency response efforts.
The latest incident adds to ongoing concerns over road safety in Ogun State. The FRSC recently disclosed that 161 people died in 415 road crashes recorded across the state between January and May 2026, while 1,007 others sustained injuries during the period.
