Oyo State Police neutralise three suspected kidnappers and rescue an abducted victim during a joint operation in Otu, Oke-Ogun

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers and the rescue of an abducted victim during a coordinated security operation in Otu, Oke-Ogun axis of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Command, the operation was carried out in collaboration with local hunters and other security agencies following a distress call received on May 25, 2026.

The distress call reportedly came from local hunters who were on an expedition in the area when they came under fire from suspected kidnappers. No casualties were recorded among the hunters at that stage.

Acting on the intelligence, a joint response team comprising police operatives, local hunters and other security personnel was immediately deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, the suspects engaged the security team in a gun duel, but were overpowered through what the Command described as superior tactical coordination.

Three suspected kidnappers were neutralised during the exchange, while an abducted victim identified as Mr Mosudi Gbolagade, aged about 50, was rescued from captivity.

The victim, who was earlier kidnapped at Okaka, sustained gunshot injuries during the operation and has been evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle without ammunition, one single-barrel gun, and a machete, indicating the level of armament used by the suspects.

One of the participating local hunters also sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, commended the operatives and local hunters for their courage and coordination during the operation, describing it as a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crime.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations against criminal elements across the state and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence.
