ADC condemns Kwara killings, faults Tinubu government over security collapse and demands clarity on police recruitment and strategy
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the killing of scores of residents in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing the incident as evidence of a grave failure of national security under President Bola Tinubu.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed on Wednesday that 75 people were killed in the attacks.
Speaking at the palace of the Emir of Kaiama, AbdulRazaq said the victims were local Muslims targeted for rejecting extremist teachings.
In a statement issued on Friday, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said the scale of the Kwara killings exposed the weakness of recent security measures, including a declared state of emergency on security and a promised nationwide police recruitment drive.
“The horrific massacre stands as a painful reminder of the complete collapse of security across the country,” Abdullahi said, offering condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Kwara State.
Abdullahi raised concerns that the perpetrators could be linked to displaced terrorist elements relocating across states due to what the party described as weak internal security coordination.
He argued that recent violence in both northern and central Nigeria pointed to deeper structural failures in intelligence gathering, border control, inter-agency collaboration, and emergency response.
The ADC questioned the implementation of the President’s November 2025 declaration of a security emergency, asking whether the initiative had translated into practical protection for vulnerable communities.
The party also sought clarity on the status of thousands of police recruits earlier announced as part of the response to insecurity.
According to the statement, communities such as those in Kaiama should not have been left exposed if the measures had been effectively carried out.
Abdullahi criticised what he described as a pattern of reactive statements after tragedies rather than sustained preventive action.

The ADC called on the Federal Government to provide Nigerians with a transparent account of the current security situation, the progress of police recruitment, and concrete strategies to halt the movement and expansion of armed groups across the country.
