Liya explains her exit from DMW, citing depression, exhaustion and health struggles as reasons for leaving the record label

Nigerian singer Abdulsalam Suliyat Modasola, popularly known as Liya, has disclosed that her departure from Davido Music Worldwide was driven by serious health challenges and a desire for personal growth.

The Liya DMW exit revelation came during an interview on Wahala with Josy Anne, where the singer spoke candidly about the emotional toll of her time at the label.

Liya, who became the first female artiste signed to the imprint in 2020, said her experience was marked by depression, exhaustion and declining health, factors that ultimately led her to step away in 2023.

She described the period as deeply challenging, noting that the decision to leave was difficult but necessary for her well-being and artistic development.

According to her, the pressures she faced during that time significantly affected both her personal life and career trajectory.

Addressing public perception, Liya said she endured harsh criticism from fans who misunderstood her situation. She recalled being labelled unproductive and accused of not making the most of the opportunities provided by the label.

The singer explained that her struggles also impacted her digital presence, revealing that she did not personally manage her Instagram account for over two years, leaving it in the hands of her manager.

Despite the difficulties, she expressed gratitude for the unwavering support she received from her manager, describing his patience as crucial during a particularly vulnerable period.

Liya rose to prominence following her signing to the label owned by Davido, releasing notable tracks such as “Melo,” “Adua,” and “Lakiriboto,” which helped establish her presence in Nigeria’s competitive music industry.
