Nigeria is emerging as a global leader in artificial intelligence usage, particularly in learning, work, and entrepreneurship, according to a new report released by Google and Ipsos.

The findings were disclosed in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday by Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, Taiwo Kola Ogunlade.

He said the report, titled Our Life with AI Helpfulness in the Hands of More People, revealed that Nigerians are adopting AI tools at an exceptional pace and showing remarkable optimism about the technology’s future.

According to the report, 88 per cent of Nigerian adults have used an AI chatbot, marking an 18 point increase from 2024 and far exceeding the global average of 62 per cent.

The figure places Nigeria among the highest adopters of AI worldwide.

Kola Ogunlade described the trend as inspiring, noting that Nigerians are using AI creatively and purposefully to unlock opportunities for learning, personal growth, and economic empowerment.

He said the Nigeria AI Adoption story goes beyond high usage figures and reflects a population actively shaping its future with technology.

The report showed that artificial intelligence has become a powerful tool for learning and professional development in Nigeria.

About 93 per cent of Nigerian users rely on AI to understand complex topics, compared to a global average of 74 per cent, while 91 per cent use the technology to support their work.

Entrepreneurship also featured strongly in the findings. The report indicated that 80 per cent of Nigerians apply AI tools to explore new business ideas or consider career changes, almost double the global average of 42 per cent.

Optimism around education was equally strong. About 91 per cent of respondents believe AI has a positive impact on learning and access to information, compared to 65 per cent globally.

In addition, 95 per cent said university students and educators stand to benefit significantly from AI tools.

Kola Ogunlade added that Nigerians are notably more optimistic about artificial intelligence than users in other parts of the world.

While 80 per cent of Nigerians expressed excitement about AI’s possibilities, only 20 per cent said they were concerned. Among frequent AI users, excitement rises to 90 per cent.

The report underscores Nigeria’s growing role as a technology driven society, where artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping education, work, and entrepreneurship in practical and empowering ways.
